You may have noticed that our website has had a little revamp. Hopefully, it will make it easier for us to keep you up to date with things that are going on at Kinnaird and to put up some of your lovely photos. Hope you like it.
Ground conditions at the moment are very good and we are currently taking bookings for individuals and groups to use the course so please get in touch and we can arrange a date to suit. Ask your instructor, Club or yard to organise a visit, or just get together with some friends. Don’t worry if you would like to come on your own – let us know in advance and we should be able to arrange for someone to accompany you to make sure you are safe … or why not come for an overnight stay? We have a few stables and there are lots of places to stay locally if a tent doesn’t appeal!
To book, call or text 07821 495865, email us on email@example.com or message us through our facebook page. We look forward to welcoming you all along to Kinnaird soon.
If there are sheep in the field when you drive past, don’t be put off – they are our sustainable strimmers! They are trying to keep the grass at a manageable length and will be moved out for your visit.
We know everyone is keen to get started on cross country training for the forthcoming season but we need to wait until the sheep move into their new fields for lambing, and then let the grass recover a little. It is important to make sure that ground conditions are as good as possible for the whole season and a little patience now will pay dividends later on.
Saturday, 20th October Well done to everyone who took part in our Hunter Trial! As usual, we are hugely grateful to all the willing volunteers who gave up their time to make sure everything ran smoothly. We couldn’t do it without them! There were some lovely clear rounds close to the optimum time, the weather was in our favour and lots of smiling faces came over the finish line so we hope you all enjoyed the day. Full results are below Weather permitting, we will remain open until the end of October, so if you would like to book, just get in touch.
NEFRC Open One Day Event Last year’s event was a great success and we are delighted that North East Fife Riding Club’s Open One Day Event is in the syllabus again this year. It promises to be another popular event and we hope to see lots of you there. As usual, the cross country will run over a lengthened course, rather than just the training field, and there are classes for both adults and juniors with a choice of three heights. There will also be easier ‘L’ options at some fences on all the courses. The Schedule and Entry Form are below so keep the date free, and in the meantime, remember to book a practice session at Kinnaird. We also have a limited amount of stabling so if you would like to be cool, calm and collected for your start time then give us a call on 07821 495865 to arrange an overnight stay beforehand.
The dismal spring is behind us and the recent sunshine has cheered everyone up! Ground conditions are good so just message us or give us a call to arrange a time to visit. There is something for everyone – Kinnaird is the perfect venue if you want to brush up on your cross country skills – we have a wide variety of fences at different height options practice show jumping on grass – the course at the bottom of the field is ideal do some fitness work – the hill is great for this bring clients for instruction or bring your own instructor for a lesson – spectating is easy from the various vantage points have a short break with your horse – non-horsy members of your group will also find lots to do locally Don’t worry if you drive past and see sheep in the field – they are keeping the grass at a sensible length and will be moved out for your visit!
Well done to everyone who took part in our hunter trial. Ground conditions held up very well and there were some lovely clear rounds close to the optimum times in all classes. Others picked up penalties along the way but everyone seemed to enjoy the day.
As always, huge thanks go to all the many people who helped in various ways. They did a fantastic job and the competition could not run without them so THANK YOU! Photographer for the day was Sinclair Photography and the pictures will be on their website very soon. The fence numbers will be coming down but the flags are still up at the moment and as the ground is still good, we can still take bookings at the moment for anyone who missed the competition or who would like to come back and iron out any problems.
Details of our competition on Saturday, 14th October are below – please scroll down for schedule, entry form and start times The extended cross country course from July’s One Day Event is still in position and is open for hire. However, we are grazing the fields to keep the grass at a manageable level so although all the fences will be available, the gates between fields may be shut. A course of rustic jumps is also in place and is ideal for a warm up before you tackle the cross country fences. The course will be closing about a week before our competition to allow us to get things ready so if you want to come for a practice beforehand, please bear that in mind. *** Diary Date *** Our annual open Hunter Trial is scheduled for Saturday, 14th October. As usual, there will be classes for both adults and juniors at heights of approx. 3′, 2’6″ and 2′ with some easier ‘L’ options on all courses and there will also be a pairs class. Ideal for both established competitors and those with less experience, it is always a friendly event and will be one of the last hunter trials of the season so come along and give it a go. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved with the NEFRC One Day Event!! The riding club, and their wonderful army of volunteers and helpers, did a fantastic job with the organisation and everyone seemed to really enjoy the day. The weather was good and ground conditions were almost perfect after some rain the previous day. The cross country course was looking great (even though we say so ourselves!!!) and there were some lovely clear rounds in all classes. The easier ‘L’ options also came in useful for some competitors to help them get round successfully and enjoy their day. We have had a variety of visitors already this season, with instructors with groups, Pony Clubbers and tetrathletes, and private individuals and groups all enjoying the variety of fences available. If you are preparing for some of the later hunter trials, bringing on a new or young horse or just wanting to have some fun, do come along to Kinnaird and enjoy our wide range of cross country fences. We also have some working hunter jumps to warm up over before you tackle the course. We are hoping to confirm a date for our annual autumn hunter trial soon, so watch out for that too.

Saturday, 15th October Well done to everyone who took part! Some lovely clear rounds were very close to the optimum time (which was increased due to the weather), and lots of happy faces came over the finish line. There was a nice mix of established combinations and more inexperienced competitors who took advantage of the ‘L’ options to get round successfully.
Unfortunately, the weather caused a few withdrawals, mainly from people with young horses, but it picked up as the day went on and the ground held up very well. The course ran over the same extended course that proved popular for the charity event in August. Photographer for the day was Jim Crichton and his pictures are on his website at http://www.jimcrichton.com
As usual, we are hugely indebted to the many volunteers who helped on the day. Their efforts are always much appreciated and we couldn’t do it without them!
On-line Entry with Equoevents This year, as well as taking postal entries, we have signed up to take on-line entries via www.equoevents.com. People who used this method for our first events found it easy to use so why not give it a try?
Sunday, 7th August We are delighted to announce that the recent competition raised £3,120 for two great charities, with Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance and Burntisland First Aid Services Trust receiving £1,560 each. Well Done Everyone!!! Huge congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make this event a great success. Your support was much appreciated. It was windier than we had hoped for, but was dry overhead and the new extended course rode well and proved popular (and look lovely, although we say so ourselves!!). There were lots of happy faces and everyone seemed to enjoy the day. The photographer was Jim Crichton who took some lovely pictures at the brush and the first corner/suspended rail. Check out his website at http://www.jimcrichton.com
The course is now open again and we hope to leave the extended course in place for a while afterwards but this will depend on the livestock! Our next event is our annual hunter trial on Saturday, 15th October which will be run over the same course. Schedules will be out nearer the time. If you would like to keep up to date with what is happening, remember to ‘like’ our facebook page at Kinnaird Cross Country, thanks. We are always delighted to see your photos and comments. Guided Course Walk – 6pm on Saturday, 6th August This proved to be popular and beneficial to those who took part. Looking for some tips on how to tackle the course? Join the guided course walk on Saturday at 6pm. Lisa Hood BHSII will lead the walk and is an experienced competitor and local instructor who is familiar with the course. The walk will be suitable for competitors in all classes. The cost of £5 will be donated to our two charities. This year, as well as taking postal entries, we have signed up to take on-line entries via www.equoevents.com. People who used this method for our first events found it easy to use so why not give it a try? Click on the link here On-Line Entry with Equo Events The Pony Club rules for hats and body protectors have recently changed and for your guidance the current standards are attached. Pony Club Hat_Rule_2016 Pony Club Body_Protector_Rule_2016 Our ANNUAL HUNTER TRIAL will be held on an earlier date than usual this year due to a family wedding and will also run over an extended course, with forms available nearer the time.
Our fun Pick-a-Fence sessions were popular and proved a great warm up for our Charity Pick-a-Fence which ran over a fresh extended course to raise funds for two very worthwhile causes. Everyone’s support for this was very much appreciated, thank you.
We had a busy time in July, with the children attending Lisa’s camps having lots of fun in lovely sunshine. As well as brushing up on their cross country skills, they practiced show jumping and flatwork and the musical ride display on the final days, with ponies carrying big flags, looked amazing!
Ground conditions are still good, the fences are all flagged and we have a selection of rustic jumps for a warm-up before you tackle the cross country, so why not get in touch to book a session, either on your own or with friends? Bring along your instructor if you wish, or just practice by yourself.
Don’t think you or your horse are quite fit enough yet? The hill is perfect for some fitness work (at a reduced rate). Remember, the course is available to clubs and groups, and can also be hired as a venue for your own competition or for short breaks. Just call Lesley on 07821 495865.
We are (at last) now also on Facebook so if you have enjoyed your visit, please give Kinnaird Cross Country a ‘like’ and add any photos etc.that you may have. Please note – if you are coming from the Pitscottie direction, we are pleased to report that the Dura Den road has now been re-opened.
